Read the book and advise you make your own comparisons. JD isn't exaggerating - Hollywood (Netflix) is. Once an author sells a book they lose artistic control and it becomes Hollywood's story and we all know about Hollywood these days.

It's too bad they had to get a foreigner to play Major Winters. Anyway, some guys have what I call exaggerated startle reflex. I'm not sure if that is used in the medical field or not. A dear co-worker who had been in Vietnam had this problem. When I walked by our office if his back was to the door and I kicked the door he would jump 2 ft in the air. He was deer hunting once in a river bottom. It was kind of hot and kind of foggy and he heard a helicopter some place and he had flashbacks. Generally he is well adjusted and has a wonderful life.

Now (in the presidential campaign year of 2024) that we know that JD Vance's "Hillbilly Elegy" itself was far, very far from any semblance of "historical fact," maybe the creators of this channel might want to add an additional channel entitled "History-ish vs. Hollywood" or with some such more honest moniker? Vance's self-dealing Horatio Alger style of a "curated" autobiographical-ish best seller was just one paving stone in the massively constructed groundwork to be Cult-45's wannabe torch bearer after the Dear Leader dies in prison (one can always hope against hope?)... And Ron Howard has "tweaked" historical fact many times before this film in order to craft one more formulaic Hollywood box-office hit after another. Remember "A Beautiful Mind" wherein Ronny miraculously made the homosexual (in real, historical, actual life) genius mathematician into the pensive yet heterosexual heartthrob portrayed by Russell Crowe?

Umm, the series had made quite a few serious blunders before this one including getting the deaths of men wrong, which no offense I find much more aggrisous than this. But this is also a solid point in fact.

From Dick Winters’ perspective, E Company was the first to Berchtesgaden & the Eagle’s Nest. He just didn’t know that the 3rd ID was already there. Also, that photo of Winters and the officers of Easy Company that is often tagged as being at the Eagle’s Nest is not the Eagle’s Nest. Good video!

This is obviously taken from Batte of Britain since it is a CASA spanish build Heinkel from after the war, since they used actual spanish air force planes back in the day to make the movie. A shame that they did not edit the correct optics of the Heinkel 111s engines.

Yeah, this is the second channel I have come across that corrects a lot of "mistakes" created by Ambrose in his book, mistakes that Hanks and Spielberg should have picked up on with just a little fact finding..........but being Hollywood, they took "artistic licence" to make a movie.

Seems like the title of the 7th Infantry Regiment's unit history _"From Fedala to Berchtesgaden"_ was a deliberate call to attention that they were the first in. Highly recommended read for anyone interested in older source material (it can be downloaded for free on the digital archives).

I'll vote for this film also. Bottom line...it was a wonderful discovery and 2 hours of fun.

This Generation is OWED SO MUCH BY SOOO MANY!!! Remember, concept of Combined Warfare was BRAND SPANKING NEW, and these men were the Guinea Pigs to "IRON OUT" problems, usually at high Casualty rates. Not ALL their Leaders were as Good as Capt/Major Winters, there were a LOT OF Duds in the ranks. There were a LOT of "Old Soldiers" who didn't buy in on the ideas(resisted change altogether) of Artillery/Armor/Infantry working together, and resisted the "new fangled ideas" put forth. These men are my heroes, and I feel everyone that followed them, owe them so much!!! THEY LITERALLY SAVED THE WORLD!!! As a former E-6 SF Medic, I remain in TOTAL AWE of these GIANTS!!! They BLAZED THE PATH for the rest of us to follow.
